The Shivers takes to the oceans! That's right, your games are finally getting closer to you :)

Thousands of Shivers games are now sailing on cargo ships around the world!

Well Shivers fans, it is with great pride that we announce this milestone. Your games have been created, finalized, packed onto shipping containers, loaded onto ships, and are now making their way (slowly) towards a port near you.

We're not sure what the actual cargo vessel looks like, but this is kind of what we're imagining. Probably pretty close...

Our main shipment is heading to Quartermaster's hub in Florida, while smaller shipments are heading to the UK, Australia, and Asia. Because of the much shorter distances involved, our backers in Asia and Australia will likely get their games first. So some of you just might see The Shivers on your doorstep before Halloween, the rest will likely be around mid-November.

What to expect in the coming weeks regarding your game:

Once our games have landed and are ready to ship out to you, you'll receive a survey email from Quartermaster Logistics, who is handling our fulfillment. They'll ask you to confirm your address for your shipment, and then your games should arrive shortly after. Of course, if you want to change your address before then, please reach out to us via Direct Message on Kickstarter, or emailing [email protected] .

As part of our final pre-shipping checklist, we have combined multiple orders for the safest and most efficient packing! This means that if you ordered the StoryCrafter’s Kit, it will arrive packaged with your main pledge, rather than as a separate envelope. This also applies if you shopped the pre-order store for add-ons or extra games after you completed your original survey.

Important note for international backers using mail-forwarding services:

If you will be using a mail forwarding service to send your pledge from the US to your international address, please double-check that your address in Backerkit contains a unique identifier in the first line. While we have manually checked several popular service addresses, we aren’t able to identify all possible forwarding addresses at a glance.

Examples of CORRECT mail-forwarding formatting:

119 Mummy St Suite 9
Halloweentown, CA 131313

PO Box 123
Halloweentown, CA 131313

Examples of INCORRECT mail-forwarding formatting:
 72 Shivers Lane
 Halloweentown, CA 131313
(No unique identifier like Suite or Apartment number on first line.)

  92 Horror Hills
 Suite 17
 Halloweentown, CA 131313
(No unique identifier on first line, it's placed incorrectly on the second line.)

So if your address on BackerKit looks properly formatted, you’re all set! If it does not, please reach out to us at [email protected] as soon as possible so we can ensure that your pledge will be shipped on its own, not combined with others. We greatly appreciate your help!

That's it for this month, stay tuned for more updates as your games get closer to port, and as always follow us on the social medias @TheShiversGame for more cool stuff!

Production is complete! Awaiting our cargo containers. Also: shipping addresses are now locked.
over 1 year ago – Thu, Aug 25, 2022 at 06:41:24 AM

Our full production run is complete!

Well it took a couple weeks longer than expected, but all of The Shivers pop-up mystery games have been fully assembled, and are awaiting loading onto containers for placement onto cargo ships. This process can take a couple weeks, and once all games are loaded and sailing the high seas, we'll send you another update.

Wondered what a game assembly line looks like?

Here's a video of The Shivers assembly line at LongPack. They've been great partners in helping bring this game to reality. Check it out!

Your shipping addresses are now locked.

As we mentioned a couple updates ago, we would be locking your addresses around when the manufacturing run is complete. For us to calculate final freight costs, we have to now lock in your addresses. So if you go to BackerKit, you won't be able to change your addresses there anymore. But don't worry, if you need an address change in between now and October when the games arrive, please contact us on an individual basis. You can use the Direct Message feature here on Kickstarter, or email us at [email protected].

Thank you again for your continued patience, this has been one hell of a mountain to climb for us all, and we truly appreciate your support in getting to this key milestone. Remember to follow us on all the social medias @TheShiversGame for more updates. In particular, our Instagram page has the first installment of Shivers Mystery Theater!

IMPORTANT: big manufacturing and shipping update! Also: addresses locking soon.

Manufacturing will be completed in about 2-3 weeks!

Hello Shivers fans! Some great news to reward your legendary patience: our manufacturer is confident that our complete production run will be completed in about 2-3 weeks. Once completed, the process of transferring all games into multiple shipping containers for distribution around the world will begin. Depending on where you are at in relation to our regional distribution warehouses, that ocean journey can take about 5-7 weeks. Then our logistics partner (Quartermaster), will need a couple weeks to sort through all the orders, and then finally ship your game directly to your address.

Add up all those weeks, and by early/mid October your personal copy of The Shivers should be sitting proudly on your game table. That means just in time for spooky Halloween fun!

Your shipping address will be locking soon!

Just before the freight containers arrive at our warehouses around the globe, we will start locking down your shipping addresses. This is the address that Quartermaster will be sending your game purchases and rewards to. If you are uncertain about your address at that time, or anticipate being between-addresses around September/October, it might be good to input an alternate address (like a friend or family member's address), just to be sure there are no delays in getting your copy.

To check your current shipping address for your order, here are two ways:

Method 1: search your inbox for emails from BackerKit, which is running the Pledge Manager service. They sent you a link many months ago to manage your order. Just click that link to see your order.

Method 2: if you have trouble finding that link, then please Direct Message me here on Kickstarter (not in the comments below), and I'll send you your personal order link.

Check out our London crypt night attendees!

We had a blast playing The Shivers with several Londoners earlier this month. These brave souls experienced the Tutorial episode, made all the more frightening by our location: a (surprisingly well lit) crypt located underneath an ancient cathedral. Thank you all for attending, and Andy had a blast, too. We'd love to see more regional events like this in the future! Anyone want to volunteer their castle?

Smiles all around as this rowdy first group tackles Episode 0: Flight of the Bumblebee (a.k.a. the Tutorial)!

That's it for this week, we're SO thrilled that there is finally an end to this long manufacturing tunnel, and that your games will be in your hands soon. Until then, stay safe out there Shivers fans!

Manufacturing is back on, thank goodness! Also, want to play The Shivers in a crypt? And a secret society...

Production Update: the Factory is Back Open!

Finally, the residents of Shanghai have been released from their unprecedented 11-week Covid lockdowns. The factory, LongPack, is coming back up to full speed and they've assured us that The Shivers is at the top of the priority list. In fact, the pop-up rooms are nearly completed (they were made in a different factory that didn't suffer from lockdowns). They are trying to finalize all game components by the the first week of August, which would put the game in your hands around early October (hopefully in time for Halloween). We realize this could stretch a little bit, but there is now definitely a bright light at the end of the tunnel, fast approaching. Thank you all for your patience, and a heartfelt Woo Hoo!

If you missed it in our last Update, here's a great video showing the complexities of assembling one of the pop-up rooms used in The Shivers game:

Calling all denizens of London and environs:

What are you doing the evening of Friday July 1st? Stop by St-Martins-in-the-Fields, at their Cafe in the Crypt: The Shivers creator Andy Logan will be there for anyone who wants to run through some episodes, meet the creator, do some Q&A, or down a pint. He'll be there from 5:30pm-7:30pm (17:30-19:30), please Direct Message him here on Kickstarter if you'd like to confirm, as a few of you have done already.

Is an ancient (but well-lit) crypt beneath an old cathedral the ideal place to play The Shivers? Let's find out!
Do they really have old tombstones in the flooring? Yes, yes they do.

Did you know there's a Pop-Up Secret Society?

Well there is: the Movable Book Society. This highly secretive organization seeks to achieve world domination by appreciating and discussing pop-up books! Well maybe not world domination per se, but their monthly Zoom meetings are pretty lively and informative. Here's a video of Andy and paper engineer Renee Jablow presenting The Shivers to the Society last year:

If you'd like to join the Society, inquire on their website link above (hind-quarters paddling is optional but always recommended).

That's it for this week, stay tuned for more production and shipping updates over the summer. As always, stay safe out there!

Pop-up room production line video! A London tour, and a super-spooky playlist...
almost 2 years ago – Tue, May 17, 2022 at 04:38:23 AM

Wonder what making 100,000 pop-up rooms looks like?

As we mentioned in our last updates, the factory that is manufacturing all of our amazing pop-up rooms has been able to stay open through the Covid lockdowns in China, being in a different city than the main factory in Shanghai. We asked them to send us a little video of what that assembly process looks like, and here it is! You'll see folding, gluing, assembling, smooshing, and cleanup in this quick video, along with huge stacks of our folded pop-up rooms:

Just think, one of those tiny works of art may be yours! It looks like they're working on the Loathsome Laboratory at the moment, one of our 8 rooms. This factory has a huge amount of experience in creating pop-up books, and especially all those little pop-up greeting cards you see in the stores. So we're 100% confident in their ability to deliver at a high level of quality. Once all of the rooms are completed in a few weeks, they'll all be sent to the main manufacturer LongPack to add into each game box.

The Shivers are coming to London: let's play!

My family will be taking a trip to Europe this summer, and we'll be in London from June 29th - July 7th. If there any London-based Shivers fans who would like to meet up for an evening of spooky fun, let me know in the comments below. We would need a space to play, perhaps a cozy pub or game shop you can suggest? Or perhaps a decrepit castle, crypt, barrow, or tomb? We'll also be visiting Paris afterwards, but Andy's French is très terrible.

We've created a playlist to enhance your Shivers game play! Any creepy jams we've missed?

During our hundreds of Shivers play tests, we noticed that a little bit of subtle, soft, spooky background music can really set the mood. But not just any music will do, it's got to have the right vibe: eerie, instrumental, subtle, not too many words. So we curated a Shivers playlist on Spotify that should help send a low-key chill up your spines while playing. Click this link to listen:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0yV2XMuGsoyZpPB9YJnR3Z?si=21826a88850b4b0b

You'll hear a lot of familiar favorites, along with some more obscure deep cuts. Can you suggest any particular bone-chilling background tunes that we've missed? Feel free to weigh in, in the comments below.

That's it for this week, we hope to have good news soon, announcing that the LongPack team has emerged from Covid lockdowns and can complete our full production run post-haste.
