FAQ: The Shivers
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Will The Shivers be available in other languages besides English?

For our immediate development process, we will be focusing on the English version of The Shivers. But we’ve heard from people world-wide about their desire for alternate languages. We will definitely be considering how to update the game in future versions for other languages, but that plan is still in-process. We hear you, and we’re working on it!

What does EU-friendly mean? And do I have to pay the VAT tax?

EU-friendly (or any region-friendly) means that we are paying the freight cost to ship games in bulk to a distribution center in your region. This saves you considerable extra shipping charges. It does not mean that you don’t have to pay any applicable taxes like VAT or sales tax. We are charging you those taxes, because we have to pay those taxes for you to your governments. Please read this excellent article by Petersen Games that explains the economic dynamics: https://petersengames.com/all-about-that-vat/

How durable will the pop-up structures be?

Our pop-up rooms will be engineered by a paper-crafting expert, and constructed at experienced pop-up manufacturing partners, for maximum durability. Our prototype rooms have withstood thousands of open/close cycles, and many dozens of play-through demos. They hold up very well, and we expect the manufactured versions to be even stronger. That said, pop-ups do not like to be forced, bent, stretched, or mashed, so a little extra care is required when playing The Shivers. Very young kids (under our recommended age) tend to be a little rough with them, so parental supervision is advised. We will also be fine-tuning our paper sourcing to ensure they deliver the maximum level of durability, but also show off the brilliant artwork. If a room gets heavily damaged beyond a simple tape repair, it’s possible that we may also offer replacement rooms for sale on our website at a later point.

Why is backing Kickstarters better than waiting for it to come into stores?

So many reasons! Starting with the most important first: 1) Sharing the Vision: It shows you believe in a shared vision that is worth contributing your hard-earned money; a vision shared by the project’s creators as well as thousands of other people around the world! 2) Kickstarter Exclusives: After this 1st Edition run of The Shivers goes out to our backers and retailers, these exclusives won’t be available in future versions. 3) Early-Access: Backers will be getting their games well before it shows up in retail stores…you’ll be the first to play and the envy of your gaming group! 4) Discounts: You’ll see that we’re offering $10 off the MSRP price. Retailers won’t be able to sell for below that price. 5) Special Things-to-come: you’ll miss out on something special yet-to-be-announced.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
